Job Title

Food Pantry Assistant

Job Summary

Schedule is Monday – Thursday 7:15 am – 4:30 pm with a 30 minute lunch break – 35 hours per week

Provide receipts and record name and address of people making donations for thank you letters and reports to those making donations of food, clothing or other items.
Greet all volunteers, making sure they are welcomed, finding a job that suits their skills and abilities. Be friendly and courteous to everyone that comes in for crisis services or to volunteer at ECCCM. Assist with answering phone calls coming into the warehouse. Make sure all refrigerators, freezers, walk-in cooler and walk-in freezer are stocked and they are maintaining correct temperatures. Assist with the distribution of food to clients and help keeps the traffic flowing at the drive-through area where clients receive food. Oversee volunteers sorting the donated clothing, helping to ensure that ECCCM quality standards are met with only good clean quality clothing going to the Thrift Store. Oversee that unacceptable donations are placed in the appropriate recycling container or dumpster. Assist with the daily intake of grocery store donations, weighing, dating and sorting. Ensure that volunteers are checking food for freshness and all items are in date and that food is rotated in the shelves, keeping oldest to the front. Ensure that only commodities unfit for human consumption are staged as offal. Assist in receiving bulk commodities at the dock, moving items to the freezer, cooler, or warehouse area depending on the commodity.
Ensure that inventory management guidelines are followed, complete with inventory distribution forms. Assist in the Thrift Store as needed. Assist with Friday and/or Saturday grocery store donations, volunteer groups or special projects as directed by Director of Food Pantry Operations.

This position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, working with a diverse population of volunteers, staff members and clients. Christian values, ethics, high idealism and a spirit of charity are critical as this position is the face and character of ECCCM.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

To further the mission and ministry of ECCCM, all employees are expected to be a Christian, practicing high ideals and morals, and whose character will not adversely affect the reputation and image of the ministry. ECCCM employees work together for the benefit of the ministry, serving ministry clients who come for assistance in the midst of crisis. Through the mission and ministry of ECCCM, each employee extends the love and grace of God to clients, volunteers, other staff members and the community at large.

Job Requirements:

  • Valid NC Driver’s License
  • Clean 5-year driving record
  • No CDL required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to operate a forklift
  • Must be able to operate forklift, electric lift, electric pallet jack, drive box truck
  • Candidate must be able to pass the ECCCM Box Truck road test 

Experience:

  • driving box truck: 1 year (Required)
  • Forklift: 1 year (Required)

License/Certification:

  • Driver’s License (Required)

This position requires the ability to work as a team member for the mission of ECCCM and the community it serves.
